Basically, all types of wood can be used as raw materials for making furniture, as long as the wood has a good hardness (not brittleness) level. Why? It because, the wood that has a good hardness level can be easily processed as being cut, carved, sanded and other process. So, essentially, any type of timber as long as it has a sufficient level of hardness can be used to make furniture or accessories.
From all of hardwood species that available nowadays, there are five types of wood that are often or commonly used by the carpenters or companies in Indonesia as main material to make a wide range of furniture products such as tables, chairs, cabinets, doors and many more. Teak
This is the wood species that considered the best to built furniture. Therefore, the demand of teak wood furniture never been receding down, not only in Indonesia but also the world. In addition to well known as strong and durable, furniture made from teak wood also impress in luxurious and elegant. It has decorative value of fiber and grain.
Mahogany
The next popular wood for making furniture is mahogany. This wood has quite good quality, the price is also cheaper when compared to the price of teak (although it’s raising every year). This is used by most furniture craftsmen in order to save on production while the quality of the product dare to be compared with teak furniture.
Rosewood
Sonokeling or rosewood is widely used because this wood has its own uniqueness. It has a natural dark color (without any further staining). The furniture made using rosewood also known durable and elegant. Therefore, similar to teak, rosewood also has fiber and the beautiful wood grain or decorative.
Acacia
At the surface, acacia has color and fiber similar to teak. Perhaps, that’s one of the main reason why this kind of wood is widely used to make furniture. While the acacia wood are quite heavy but wood is it’s also known to be quite durable and strong.
Tamarind
Today, the demand for tamarind wood furniture can be fairly high. Not only from within the country but it’s also come from abroad. Tamarind wood is used to make furniture because there are still plenty of them available in the forest and the timber size is generally large.
